“I learned how to love and accept people in a way I have never experienced before.”
Home : Who Is LYS
The Louisiana Youth Seminar was established in 1971 as a unique and progressive seminar for high school students. Every year the Seminar is held at Louisiana State University for one week in July. During this fun-filled week, students participate in many activities such as icebreakers, student mixers and political campaigns and elections. LYS also offers goal setting sessions, speech writing and delivery
instruction, as well as theme competitions.

Delegates

Each year 200 high school students entering their junior or senior years attend the Louisiana Youth Seminar.  Established 40 years ago, LYS has impacted 7000 students.  Students come to LYS via a variety of ways:  selected by their schools or community or corporate leaders, sent by their parents, recruited by past LYS delegates and by LYS friends and family.  The goal of LYS is to attract student leaders of all talents, interests and backgrounds.

At LYS, students are referred to as "delegates," as they represent their school and their community at the LYS experience.  At LYS, delegates are assigned to one of 12 "home groups," with other delegates from throughout the state.  Delegates live in LSU dorms for the week of LYS and room with others from their "home group."  Delegates cannot choose their roommates and cannot be in home groups with others that they know well.

Each year, delegates represent between 65-80 high schools from throughout the state.  A partial listing of schools represented at LYS over the past several years is included below.  The listing is too large to include all schools. You can also view pictures of LYS delegates in action »
